Apostille Process for South African University or College Qualifications

To utilize South African qualifications (degrees) for purposes in other countries or at foreign embassies in South Africa, obtaining an Apostille certificate is essential. This certificate authenticates your documents, ensuring their validity in international contexts.

Requirements for Apostille of University Degrees and Diplomas:

To initiate the Apostille process for your degree or diploma, you will need to provide the following documentation:

  • A copy of your degree or Diploma
  • A copy of your South African ID (for South African citizens)
  • A copy of your Passport or asylum documentation (for foreign nationals)
    1. If your passport has expired, please include a copy of the expired passport, if applicable.

  • Upon receipt, we will complete the necessary consent form for the verification of your qualifications and forward it to you for signature and initials.
  • Following your approval, we will submit your qualifications for verification.
  • Once the verification is complete, your validated qualifications will be collected and submitted to the Department of International Relations and Cooperation for Apostille certification.

Processing Times:

We offer two service levels:

  • Standard Apostille: Processing time is approximately 4 to 7 weeks, excluding weekends, public holidays, and Wednesdays (as the consular section does not process Apostille applications on that day).
  • Expedited Apostille: Processing time is typically 3 to 5 working days, also excluding weekends and public holidays.

NOTE:

  • Please be aware that the specified timeframe pertains solely to the apostille process. The verification of your qualifications may require up to 21 business days to complete.
  • If your qualifications such as degree, diploma, or matric certificates have already been verified by SAQA or UMALUSI, please arrange for us to retrieve them from your location or from SAQA. To initiate the apostille service, kindly email us at [email protected].
  • We do not impose any fees for the collection of documents for apostille services.
  • There are no charges for the apostille itself or for authentication certificates; the only fee applied is for the processing of documents on your behalf.
